Tim's Takeaways: Week 16
Check back here every week to listen to Tim: analyze what we saw, discuss who's trending up or down, and jump to some wild conclusions.
The Plight of RBs Continue Another week, another failure by first-round RBs to return a proportionate amount of points relative to their draft position. In a week where Jonathan Taylor, Christian Mccaffery, Austin Ekeler, Dalvin Cook, D’Andre Swift, Alvin Kamara, and Najee Harris all failed to reach 14 PPR points, the question burns brighter than ever: Is the era of the first-round RB over? I mean, you know it’s bad when Tyler Conklin (16.4 PPR points) outscores your first-round pick. Of the top-fifteen highest scoring RBs of week three, just one (Derrick Henry) had a sub-round two ADP. To put things into perspective, there were 33 WRs in week three that scored higher than 14.0 PPR points. My advice? Hold the line. Correction/positive regression is on the way. It just has to be. Otherwise this season would be a major statistical outlier and well… I don’t know about you, but now that I say it out loud, it sounds exactly like my luck. Do The Bucs Suck? Regardless of who’s fault Tampa’s struggles are, their output in fantasy and on the field has been unacceptable. Through three games the Bucs have a total of three offensive TDs. God forbid Tom Brady doesn’t have the most elite stable of weapons in all of football… Although their production has been concerning (Brady’s in particular) his lack of dependable weapons can’t be understated. Gronk is gone, we knew Chris Godwin was going to be an injury concern Julio Jones has become fragile in his old age, Evans served a one-game suspension… None of that however is an excuse when you’re the GOAT. If you and I know that, best believe Brady knows that. Yes things look bad, but I think once Godwin gets back and if Julio can stay healthy enough, Tampa could get back on track sooner rather than later. As a proud Leonard Fournette manager in several leagues, I certainly hope so. Jags No Longer The Matchup To Pick On Normally you see your D/ST has an upcoming matchup with Jacksonville and your mouth starts to water. Well, following this years theme of things being completely backward, we’re now going to start running the other way when we see the Jags on the schedule. Between Christian Kirk’s breakout, James Robinson’s inevitability, Travis Etienne’s high-floor, and Trevor Lawrence taking the next step, Duval county is no longer a squad to be sneezed at. Lawrence looked like a legit NFL pro in week three, nearly throwing for four TDs (one called back.. Evan Engrams fault) with no turnovers against a Chargers defense that isn’t exactly a pushover unit. Who knew a Super-Bowl winning head coach could make such a difference?
